What Are In-Ground Bollards?
In-ground bollards are installed by embedding a steel post directly into the ground, typically set into concrete footings. Once installed, the bollard becomes a permanent fixture, offering passive protection against accidental vehicle collisions and deliberate intrusion attempts.
Because the bollard relies on depth and surrounding material for strength, in-ground installation is widely regarded as the most robust and economical solution for sites that allow excavation.

Strength Through Design & Installation

Sentry Fixed In-Ground Bollards are designed to be embedded directly into concrete footings, using the surrounding ground and concrete mass to absorb and distribute impact forces. When installed correctly, this method provides reliable, long-term protection against vehicle collisions without the need for ongoing maintenance.
Installation depth plays a critical role in overall performance. For most applications, a minimum embedment depth of approximately 300–400mm is recommended, with deeper footings specified where higher impact resistance or site conditions require it.
Bollards can be installed by core drilling into existing concrete surfaces or set into new concrete footings, depending on project requirements. Our team can advise on footing sizes, embedment depths, and installation methods to suit site conditions and the level of protection required.
Installation Methods
Sentry Fixed In-Ground Bollards can be installed using two primary methods:
Core Drilled Installation
Core drilling allows bollards to be installed into existing concrete slabs, pavements, or footpaths. This method is commonly used for retrofit projects where new footings are not practical.
New Concrete Footings
For new construction or major upgrades, bollards are installed directly into freshly poured concrete footings. This provides maximum flexibility for depth, alignment, and reinforcement.
